Happy New Year 2025!

With 2025 now here, it creates a little buzz around resolutions. It’s okay if you love them. It’s okay if you hate them. This post isn’t really about that. Anything that makes us better versions, or the best versions of ourselves is a wonderful thing!

In the spirit of bettering myself, it is important to have insight. I am scared of making mistakes. I already know why. What is more interesting is the lengths taken to avoid them. Studying in private, keeping secrets, and practicing at every spare moment. Taking a very long time to make a decision.

This year, I want to make a change. Take a chance that I might be worth more than I tell myself. That which holds me back is the fear of screwing it all up. It takes a lot of hard work to get here. And there are so many hurdles going forward. What happens if..?

Though I don’t do resolutions, it feels right to have a motto for the year. And 2025 might need to be “there’s a solution to every problem, so don’t be afraid to make mistakes”.

May 2025 be our year to take grand chances!

  1. Good on ya! Isn’t it remarkable how limiting fear of failure is?

I told my middle daughter that when I was in college, I liked Physics so much I took it twice! When said daughter went to college herself, she repeated the story to a particularly high-strung classmate, who was aghast. “You know, that means he failed. right?” the classmate said. Point being, of course, was that failure is neither fatal nor permanent. It pays to remember that.

Or, if nothing else, remember Miss Frizzle’s advice on The Magic Schoolbus: Get dirty! Make mistakes!

I’m going to hold onto that first line. Well, I’m hanging onto all of it, but particularly “how limiting fear of failure is” resonates with me. Thank you! For the hope, the wishes, the encouragement, and the story. “Failure is neither fatal nor permanent”. Absolute brilliance!
