Soulful Sundays – surprising

Surprising someone or surprising yourself. Which is better?

Do something because you want to, not because you’ve given it a justification. You are worth it. Whatever that something is, you are totally worth it! Learning a new language, taking art classes in a new medium, doing a form of exercise you’ve wished you had the guts to try.

That last one I’m still trying to work up the courage for.

In the other areas, all this trying is getting results. So much so that when I shared a project I’m working on the result was to hear two of my favourite people exclaim; “YOU DID THIS?!”

It felt so good! Especially when I replied with exuberance that I indeed created that art. It still has some final touches to go, and is for Tomorrow’s Dawn, so you will eventually get to see it.

Today, I wanted to circle back to a challenge that I set a little bit ago, which was to revisit some original works. Basically, take something I drew when I first began and then show what I’m able to do now. So, I’m posting both for you to see. These are also characters from Tomorrow’s Dawn. When I began, I had no idea what the story would be. I only saw characters in my mind. Eventually, I would finish writing other works and begin on their story. What it has evolved to is magic. (a whisper of a dad-joke there. Cuz dad jokes are the BEST!)

What I hope to share is inspiration. Believe that you are worth trying something new. It doesn’t need a justification or a reason, because you are enough. Do whatever that something is for you. And hopefully, you’ll come to a moment where you surprise yourself and others.
I know you can do this. Selina

  1. I love how you can, with just a couple pencil strokes, get such depth of expression in your characters. That’s always charmed me—keep up your amazing work!
